Morning all,

Noted on SBS and PlanePlotter is a C-27 travelling northwards up through UK airspace at this time, 09:25 GMT/ Zulu. Shows as a HEX code of 7CF990 and serial of I-EASC. This HEX being Australian and registration of new C-27 for the RAAF clearly suggests that your first delivery is imminent. Just waiting to see it fly over Scotland.

This information is widely available in the public domain and all information obtained legally.

Hello again,

Managed a visual so great. Callsign confirmed as I-EASC so re-using A34-001 transit regn. Photos on net do show A34-004 flying as I-EASC so now on way to L3.

Rick

CAF was recently very insistent that one be in Oz before he leaves Russell.

Not to be, alas.

The second C27J Spartan, A34-002, arrived at RAAF Townsville on Thursday and continued on to RAAF Richmond yesterday, 18 September. 002 had been displayed at an air show at Misawa, Japan last weekend.

I believe that another 3 or 4 will be delivered before the end of 2015.

A correction to my post re A34-002. It arrived and overnighted at Cairns, not RAAF Townsville, on Thursday before heading to RAAF Richmond on Friday, 18 September.

Morning all,

Not up early enough to get a visual but I-RAIJ is now currently (08:39L) just passing the Isle of Skye heading to Keflavik today 28th January. This information from PlanePlotter and registration caught my eye.

HEX is 7CF991 suggesting another delivery to the US for equipment install for onward transit to 35 squadron.

Best regards

RAAF investigating C-27J landing incident at Waco
May 18, 2016 by australianaviation.com.au —

"Waco Regional Airport in Texas was closed for most of Tuesday after an RAAF C-27J Spartan suffered a reported double tyre blow-out while conducting touch-and-goes during a pilot training flight.

“The Royal Australian Air Force has commenced a safety investigation after a C-27J Spartan aircraft had an incident on landing at the conclusion of a routine training flight at Waco Airport, Texas, USA at approx 12am (local US time),” the Department of Defence confirmed in a media statement on Wednesday morning.

“No one was injured in the incident.”

“An assistant Waco fire chief said the airplane’s crew had attempted a landing late Monday night, but the plane may have touched down short of the runway and damaged two tyres,” Waco television station KWTX reported.

The incident saw the runway at Waco closed until 7pm Tuesday evening, forcing the cancellation of a number flights into and out of the airport.

“The runway was temporarily closed to other aircraft so that the C-27J Spartan could be moved. Air Force thanks local airport, emergency services and security staff who are assisting with the recovery and apologises for the inconvenience to other airfield users,” Defence stated.

Defence said the aircraft was flying: “a pilot qualification flight for RAAF pilots converting to the new C-27J Spartan battlefield airlifter, flown alongside industry instructors”.

Ten C-27Js are on order for the RAAF, of which two have been delivered to Australia so far. The aircraft are built by Alenia (recently renamed Leonardo Aircraft) in Italy but L-3 Communications is the prime contractor for the aircraft under a US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) arrangement, modifying the C-27Js with mission systems and undertaking pilot conversion training at Waco."

Still only two in Australia, seems their availability is limited due breakdowns. A few weeks back one had been scheduled to Pearce but stopped at Adelaide before returning to Richmond. Word on the street is that two are planned for Avalon but we've all heard the rumours before!

Hmmm,...I think the issue of the USAF backing out of their original number and divestment of the fleet of 21 who we linked up with through FMS, and the transfer back to Italy the Logistics train may have something to do with the availability of parts perhaps. Still. popular type,..but maybe a limited run now,..that flashy Jet types like C-390 coming on stream

The USCG is starting to induct their 14 C-27Gs now for service.I think we're marrying up with them in some way as well. I thought I've read that somewhere. The Us Army SOC had an incident midair with one of their seven C-27Js as well earlier this year.

I'm not sure of the World Fleet status. They're selling in drips and drabs of 1-2's

May go the same way of the first Caribou replacement,..the Buffalo. Circa 100 airframes. The USAF bought 10 original G-222's in the 80's for Central America Ops,...lasted only about eight years in operations,..then AMARC with some with cracks in rear fuselages from stress.

I've ranted on enough

Best

I noted A34-003 "ASY624" on FR24 on 5 October flying along the coast of Italy and later near Crete where it may have overnighted. I saw it again the next day somewhere over the Middle East (Israel ?) where contact was lost. Perhaps its delivery flight ?

C-27J Spartan A34-003 as ASY624 currently due into Darwin today 17 October from Halim, Indonesia.
My mail says there is a good chance that at least one more will likely be delivered before years end.

Hi all,

Been a while but thought this of interest. Today Tuesday 10th January 2017, C-27J A34-007 transitted out of Turin, Italy westbound to Keflavik in Iceland. Weather not great here with headwinds so clearly needed a gas n' go so delighted when it pitched up at Edinburgh (Scotland) enroute. Clear full serial with transit regn of I-RAIB. HTH

I notice that as the US Army C-27J fleet are now wearing the RAAF style paint scheme.
That saves us having to repaint them when they sell them to us.

The RAAF scheme certainly looks better than the original US Army scheme
I doubt we will ever buy any second hand, remember the manufacturer's dummy spit when that was suggested last time.

Took a representative photo which I'll try and attach later, still sitting in the sun up the road as we speak.
