Hi guys! Just a quick note to ask how do I add a photo as my avatar? When I click on MY Controls I just get a blank page.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Unfortunatley, this is a limitation of our old software.

I can add an avatar for you from the Administrator Console.

Just send your preferred Avatar to me at brendan.cowan@adf-serials.com.au and I will add that to your profile on your behalf.

Sorry for the cumbersome approach required to set that up for you.

Regards

Brendan

Thanks Nick,

I have added your Avatar now and it should be visible on all of your postings.

Great pic BTW!

How many seconds was that away from landing on?

Well, given that it was better than 30 years ago, I suppose you might forgive me for not recalling exactly, but since we are on centre-line I would reckon it would only be about 10-15 seconds from trapping. I do recall that I took the photo from No 3 seat by simply setting the camera focus to infinity, setting the exposure to auto and holding it up and clicking blind. I was rather pleased with the way I managed to frame the ship in the windscreen, but it was totally blind luck it came out as well as it did. There is a bit of blur on the photo at full resolution which I put down to vibration in the aircraft, plus I was not braced up holding the camera at all. A higher-res copy of this photo is avalable on Wikimedia Commons for anyone that's interested.

BTW, would it be too much trouble to move the photo from my avatar to replace the ADF Serials logo thing on my profile? I guess I am guilty of the old "careful what you ask for, you just might get it". :D

Nick

Thanks Nick,

I'd seen your photo many times before and and's great to get the first hand story of how it came about.

As to the ADF-Serials logo - well that will change on your fifth post into a Maurice Farman MF.11 Shorthorn!

That space is used by our user ranking - so I can't swap the two images - but it's always worth asking. ;)

Cheers

Brendan

P.S. The rankings by posting are:

Ah! Thanks for the explanation Brendan. Fair'nuff.

Oh, and in case anyone wants to know, the pilot whose helmet you can see in the photo was Mark Carr. As I recall he had the best boarding rate on 816 at the time. I personally considered him to be the finest pilot on the squadron.
