Standing by with a sheet of brown paper for A38-002.

Old Fokker will explain. He might also know if the legislation still stands.

For accuracy, 006 is LEGIONNAIRE. Whilst on the visit (with Nathan and several others) our host was amazing as he arranged all the hangars to be opened so that we could sight each one. He also related a story about two Blackhawks that staged through the Barracks en route to East Timor for some routine maintenance. Seems an enterprising techo decided that more fitting names be applied, so the names on the Blackhawks were changed to "Princess" and "Cup Cake". The change was not noticed until they had already spent a week in East Timor, then the flurry of emails started with a progression up the food chain, but alas the deed had been done and what a hoot!!!

Sure to blow off during the first departure, Ron !

War Precautions Act Repeal Act 1920 and Statutory Rules 1921 Amendments still current and wielded by the DVA Minister.

Good to see biscuit ( "Cookies" are banned ! ) manufacturers and the RAN are now joined by Army Aviation.

Oakey next with the lettering stencil ?

Just to elaborate on Mick's reply. I was interested to see the name "ANZAC" on A38-002. Back in 1934 when Smithy imported the Lockheed Altair VH-USB he had named it ANZAC but he was required to remove it because the name is protected against exploitation by Commonwealth legislation. Smithy was required to cover the name with brown paper before he was permitted to "land" the Altair from the ship that brought it to Australia. The aircraft was barged to a nearby park from where it was flown to Mascot leaving behind the brown paper during the take-off. Subsequently the name was removed permanently and that's how the Altair came to be named "Lady Southern Cross". I hasten to add that I'm not suggesting anything so drastic with the Tiger.

Thanks Ron for the detailed explanation of the 1934 events.

And good to see A38-006 was not christened with "MATTOKKA" following the unauthorised panel-beating at Rockhampton during Ex Talisman Sabre 11.

Remember this the ADF and Government can use the word ANZAC in its context. It is not advertising. It may be allowed by Govt to be used under special circumstances in other contexts.

Other examples include HMAS ANZAC.

I don't believe that naming an Army helicopter ANZAC is advertising or misuse of the word.

Invader26

I don't have a problem with the use of the name on an Army helicopter. My point was that it shouldn't have been a problem in 1934 either.

What does one call a tiger with floaty things attached?

Minister for Defence – Defence investing in innovative Tasmanian industry
10 Mar 2016 Dept of DefMins

"Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, today announced the Government will invest $4 million to further develop an innovative emergency flotation device for the Australian Defence Force.

The Pegasus Aircraft Buoyancy System, developed by Australian company One Atmosphere in collaboration with Airbus Group Australia Pacific, is designed to provide additional buoyancy to rotary wing aircraft that have crashed or ditched at sea and potentially provide extra time for the aircrew to escape safely.

This innovation funding will support the further development of the technology at the One Atmosphere facility at Eaglehawk Neck, near Hobart, and its potential application to the Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter. It brings Defence’s total investment in the Pegasus system to $7.8 million.

“The Government is investing an additional $4 million in funding for this innovative Australian company to develop a system that will help ensure the safety of our ADF members,” Minister Payne said.

“The Pegasus technology will be initially focussed on the Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter to support their use from HMAS Canberra and HMAS Adelaide.”..."
